Western Tidewater Regional Jail has confirmed the booking of Yasir Qathan Saud on federal felony charges related to the possession of child sexual abuse material.

According to Western Tidewater records, Saud was arrested on July 6, 2021, by the U.S. Marshals Service in Norfolk. The charge is categorized as a federal felony for prisoners and does not specify a bond amount. The public record describes Saud as a white male, standing 6 feet tall and weighing 230 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

The Virginia State Police report that in 2024, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received over 10,000 tips regarding child exploitation, resulting in 150 arrests across the state. The Eastern District of Virginia prosecuted 45 cases involving child sexual exploitation during fiscal year 2023, leading to significant sentences for offenders. Local efforts in Norfolk and surrounding areas emphasize federal collaboration to combat such crimes.

The Department of Justice states that more than 2,500 individuals were convicted of child exploitation offenses in fiscal year 2023, with an average sentence of 15 years. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received over 32 million reports of suspected child sexual exploitation in 2023, underscoring the global scale of this issue. Immigration and Customs Enforcement reported arresting over 1,200 predators in operations targeting international child exploitation networks.

Western Tidewater Regional Jail serves Suffolk and Franklin cities along with Isle of Wight County in Virginia. Established in 1992 as a regional facility, it houses federal, state, and local inmates with a capacity exceeding 600 beds. The jail emphasizes secure incarceration alongside rehabilitation programs and collaborates with federal agencies like U.S. Marshals for holding high-profile cases.
