Fairfax County Public Schools announced on June 1 the recipients of FCPS Cares recognition for June 2026, highlighting employees who have made significant contributions across various schools in the district.
Rachel Perella from Willow Oaks Admin Center was recognized for her work with Behavior Intervention Services. Lori Kraden said, “Throughout the past school year, Rachel Perella has truly been an invaluable asset to Behavior Intervention Services. Her mastery of the CPS model and her knack for creating accessible, high-quality instructional tools have greatly elevated our professional development. Rachel has become a trusted leader and a go-to resource for her colleagues, creating a warm and supportive environment where everyone can thrive. From managing the county-wide Mandt training schedule to championing inclusive practices, Rachel’s proactive leadership has made a meaningful difference for both staff and students alike.”
A group of teachers and staff at Lake Braddock Secondary—Mike Dougherty, Gerald Bodner, Paul Wardinski, Dennis Adams, Martin Gross, and Jean Burneo—were acknowledged by a parent who said they were “instrumental in guiding and educating our son in his Senior year at Lake Braddock High School.” The parent added gratitude: “We want to sincerely thank, extend our appreciation, and recognize these teachers and staff for the time and attention they have devoted to our son. Thank you so much and continued success to Lake Braddock Secondary School!”
Sophia Hoey at Cub Run Elementary School received praise from a parent who described her as an “outstanding teacher” whose support created a positive environment: “It is especially remarkable that this is Ms. Hoey’s first year teaching in the classroom… She’s truly a role model for her! Ms. Hoey approaches every child with kindness, understanding, and patience… Her encouraging nature helps build confidence in her students.” Margie Evans at Fort Hunt Elementary was commended by Rachael Smith: “Mrs. Margie Evans is an extraordinary teacher who has touched the lives of countless students throughout her career… Even after retiring, her dedication to education brought her back to FCPS as a part-time teacher.”
At London Towne Elementary School, Beatriz Kalin was described by one parent as an “incredible Kindergarten Instructional Assistant” whose nurturing approach motivates students daily: “Beatriz is an absolute gem… Her enthusiasm and dedication make a tremendous difference.” Teresa Oronoz also received recognition from another parent as “an exceptional Kindergarten Instructional Assistant” known for supporting children through challenges: “She consistently goes above and beyond to ensure every child feels successful.”
