Fairfax County Public Schools has been recognized on Apr. 24 as one of the Best Communities for Music Education by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation.

The recognition highlights the district’s ongoing commitment to providing students with access to music education and underscores the importance of music programs in schools.

Now in its 27th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is given to districts that demonstrate strong support for music education through factors such as funding, graduation requirements, participation rates, instructional time, facilities, and community involvement. Fairfax County Public Schools has received this honor 13 times and is one of 1,008 school districts acknowledged in 2026.

The district’s schools and ensembles have achieved national and international recognition. Student groups regularly perform at conferences hosted by organizations like the Virginia Music Educators Association and National Band Association. The district also hosts a rare All-County Chorus event and provides students opportunities to attend performances by professional groups such as the National Symphony Orchestra.

Schools within Fairfax County consistently earn national accolades including awards like the Sudler Flag of Honor and invitations to prestigious events such as the Midwest Clinic. The district’s educators are known for their leadership; many present at national conferences, achieve state and national honors, receive National Board Certification, or are recognized by organizations like the GRAMMY Association.
