Fairfax County Public Schools announced on April 29 a series of recognitions, activities, and resources available to students, families, and staff across the district.

The update includes several honors for schools and individuals. Fairfax County Public Schools has been recognized by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation as one of the Best Communities for Music Education. The All-County Sixth Grade Choral Festival continued its tradition with hundreds of students participating. Lisa Choi, a reading specialist at Fairfax Villa Elementary School, was named FCPS CARES of the Quarter award recipient for her innovative literacy programs supported by Educate Fairfax grants.

In support roles, transportation workers were thanked following School Bus Driver Appreciation Day. Family engagement efforts were highlighted through liaisons like Amal Elsayed at the Special Education Family Conference, which saw increased attendance this year. Several family support services will relocate from Dunn Loring Center to Pimmit Hills Center in May due to building renovations.

FCPS is also promoting summer learning opportunities including Career and Technical Education camps and Fine and Performing Arts camps at Robinson Secondary School in July. Tuition assistance is available for eligible families. New aftercare options are offered for these programs.

Mental health remains a focus with no-cost virtual therapy sessions available to high school students and additional mental health resources promoted through partnerships such as the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board. The district noted an 11% decrease in youth suicides since implementing the national 988 Lifeline service.

Upcoming events include National Fentanyl Awareness Day on April 29, Bike and Roll to School Day on May 6 to encourage healthy habits among students, and a virtual job fair for special education and STEM teachers scheduled for May 2. Adult learners can benefit from discounts on skilled trades courses during National Apprenticeship Week through FCPS Adult and Community Education.
