Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) announced on April 15 several updates to its calendar, student services, and community engagement activities for the coming weeks. The school board has directed that Veterans Day will be a standard instructional day in the 2026-27 school year, resulting in the last day of school moving to Wednesday, June 16, 2027. The last day of the current school year remains unchanged at Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

The announcement highlights adjustments related to statewide elections and early release days. There will be no classes for students on Tuesday, April 21 due to the Virginia statewide election; however, free lunch and snacks will be available at participating schools for children aged eighteen and under. Additionally, elementary students will have full instructional days instead of early release on April 22 and April 29.

Several family support services currently located at Dunn Loring Center are set to relocate permanently as the building undergoes renovation. Services at Dunn Loring will end in May with all programs reopening at Pimmit Hills Center starting Monday, June 1.

Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid is encouraging community participation through her Community Conversations series scheduled throughout April at various elementary schools across Fairfax County. In her Weekly Reflections update, Dr. Reid also highlighted Sherisse Kenerson from Holmes Middle School who recently appeared on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” for her work leading an after-school Cursive Club.

FCPS recognized student achievements by announcing that over two hundred high school students were selected for All-Virginia Band, Chorus, Orchestra events this year along with fifty-six middle school chorus participants. The division also continues support initiatives such as Spring Sprouts enrichment during spring break and specialized resources for military-connected families.

Looking ahead, FCPS is hosting its Special Education Family Conference on Saturday, April 18 at Marshall High School and encourages families to register if they plan to attend or require accommodations like language interpretation services.
