Fairfax County Public Schools announced on April 22 a range of student accomplishments, upcoming events, and important updates for families and staff across the division.

The announcement highlights several achievements by students, including nine FCPS students who received corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarships in 2026. Two students also earned Grand Prize awards at the Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair, advancing to international competition. Nearly 400 students were recognized with International Baccalaureate Diplomas or Career-Related Certificates in 2025.

Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid attended the Military-Connected Youth Field Day at Annandale High School as part of the Month of the Military Child celebration. Robinson Secondary School senior Abby Huisman was named a finalist for Military Child of the Year due to her work supporting military-connected peers through Rambassadors, an organization that welcomes new students.

The school system will host a virtual Family Cafe workshop on May 13 to introduce career pathways and technical education opportunities available to middle and high schoolers. More than 160 Career and Technical Education courses are offered, many providing industry credentials or work-based learning experiences.

FCPS also reminds families about required immunizations for rising seventh and twelfth graders ahead of fall enrollment. Immunization events will be held throughout the year in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance at no out-of-pocket cost to families.

Other notable recognitions include Laure Grove receiving a national Best of Green Schools Award for her environmental initiatives at Terra Centre Elementary School; Josh McFarland being named a finalist for Outstanding Secondary School New Teacher; ten teachers earning or renewing National Board Certification; Garfield Elementary receiving book donations from the Library of Congress; West Potomac Academy conducting emergency response simulations; transportation staff participating in an annual Bus Roadeo; and nominations opening for the Dr. Lawrence Bussey Memorial Equity Award recognizing efforts to improve outcomes for underserved groups.

Community members are encouraged to provide feedback on Fairfax County’s Fiscal Year 2027 budget before its adoption in May. The next regular School Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 23 at 7 p.m.
