The VCU Rams women’s track and field team won eight medals at the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship, which took place on May 3 at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Virginia. The team finished third overall with a score of 96.5 points.

This result highlights the team’s strong performance in both individual and relay events during the outdoor championship meet.

In sprints and hurdles, a junior athlete secured gold in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.76 seconds and also earned bronze in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.56 seconds. Another competitor finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles after setting a personal record of 13.91 seconds during preliminaries before running a final time of 14.41 seconds.

The Rams’ relay teams also performed well, as the squad consisting of Person, Powell, and two other teammates won gold in the women’s 4×100 meter relay with their season-best time of 46.14 seconds. The women’s 4×800 meter relay team achieved their best mark this season by finishing in nine minutes and twelve point fifty-six seconds.

Field events saw further success for VCU athletes: one junior took silver in long jump with a personal best leap of five point ninety-four meters; another teammate claimed bronze in triple jump with her top effort this year at twelve point eighteen meters; while two throwers captured gold and silver respectively in hammer throw at distances exceeding sixty meters.

Most members have now concluded their season following this championship meet, but select athletes will continue to compete at the NCAA East Preliminary Round scheduled for May twenty-seven through May thirty.
