Junior Josh Duangmanee secured a spot for the Virginia Cavaliers in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) match play final after making a long birdie putt on the first playoff hole of the last semifinal match against North Carolina, according to an April 27 announcement. The Cavaliers defeated North Carolina 3-2, marking their fifth consecutive ACC match play victory since last season.
The upcoming final will see Virginia face Stanford in an 18-hole match scheduled for Monday, April 27. The event will be broadcast on ACCNX starting at 10:20 a.m.
Duangmanee entered the 18th hole with a one-up lead, but his opponent Grant Roscich made a birdie putt to tie and force extra holes. Senior Bryan Lee had closed his own match just before this, leaving only Duangmanee and Roscich’s contest remaining as both teams were tied at two points each. Graduate student Paul Chang contributed to Virginia’s tally by making four birdies over his last six holes to defeat Sihan Sandhu with a score of four and two. Chang’s was the only one of five matches not extending beyond the 16th hole.
Virginia has now beaten North Carolina in ACC Match Play for two consecutive years. The Cavaliers won their first-ever ACC Championship in 2025 with another close victory over North Carolina. This latest win sets an ACC record for five straight victories in league championship competition since match play was introduced into the format in 2021.
Paul Chang improved his personal record to four wins and one loss during his career at ACC match play events. Including Monday’s matchup, Virginia has recorded two wins, one loss, and one tie against North Carolina this season.
