Old Dominion University head women’s basketball coach DeLisha Milton-Jones announced on Apr. 30 that Gee Lawler will join her staff as an assistant coach and recruiting director.

The announcement is significant for the Old Dominion Monarchs women’s basketball program, as it adds new experience and recruiting expertise to the coaching team.

Milton-Jones said, “The addition of Ginnesica to my staff is a hire I am very excited about. Coach Gee will bring a fresh perspective, bright personality, and well-respected recruiting ties to our Women’s Basketball program. Monarch nation will love getting to know her on and off the court.”

Lawler comes to Old Dominion after spending a season at Tarleton State, where she managed the recruiting program and worked with post players. She previously played for and coached at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, contributing to two Southland Conference Championships as part of the coaching staff. Lawler also has experience as an English teacher and coach at Seguin High School in Michigan.

“I’m delighted to be the newest addition on staff here at ODU,” Lawler said. “It is an honor to serve alongside one of the best to play and coach the amazing game of basketball! Coach Dee is a gem, innovative leader, and a proven winner! I’m looking forward to pouring into our student-athletes and being a part of a legendary staff! Old Dominion is such a special place to be, and I am elated to continue the growth of this program’s rich tradition!”

Lawler’s recent work included mentoring freshman center Elodie Lutbert at Tarleton State; Lutbert became both leading rebounder (7.8 rebounds per game) and third leading scorer (10.4 points per game) for her team last season.
