Contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation are set to begin daytime lane closures on a section of Rolfe Highway (Route 31) in Surry County starting March 25. The closures will occur over several weeks as part of road resurfacing efforts, covering a 3.7-mile stretch from Colonial Trail East (Route 10) to about half a mile from the Scotland dock at the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry.

The planned lane closures will take place mainly during weekday hours between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., reducing traffic to one lane under flagger control. Traffic will alternate in each direction, and motorists are advised to follow flagger instructions while traveling through the work zone.

Drivers heading to or from the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry should expect possible delays due to these daytime closures and are encouraged to allow extra travel time so as not to miss scheduled ferry departures from the Scotland docks. More information about ferry schedules can be found at www.JSFerry.org. Access for local properties and businesses along Rolfe Highway will remain open throughout the project, though all activities depend on weather conditions and may change accordingly.

According to the official website, the Virginia Department of Transportation is responsible for building, maintaining, and operating roads, bridges, and tunnels across Virginia with an emphasis on safety and efficiency.
