The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has released information on scheduled construction and maintenance work in the Culpeper District for the week of March 9 to 13, 2026. The agency notes that dates and times provided are when work is planned, but not necessarily when it will be completed, as activities may be affected by weather conditions.

District-wide operations will include bridge and guardrail maintenance, cutting of brush, trees and limbs, pothole repairs, surface and shoulder repairs, paving operations, mowing, drainage work and roadside cleanup.

VDOT encourages drivers to check live traffic updates and roadwork information via the 511 Virginia system or by downloading the free VDOT 511 Virginia Traffic app for mobile devices. Motorists can also sign up for personalized traffic alerts and view traffic cameras through 511 Virginia. Additional updates are available by following VDOT Culpeper District on X (@VaDOTCULP) or joining their Facebook group.

For more details about ongoing major projects in the district, residents can visit the Culpeper District’s major projects page. Other resources such as a paving status map and information about Virginia roads are also available online.

VDOT’s main responsibilities include building, maintaining and operating Virginia’s roads, bridges and tunnels to ensure a safe transportation system (official website). The department manages one of the largest state highway systems in the United States with tens of thousands of lane-miles (official website). It provides services like highway maintenance, traffic management through systems such as Virginia 511, and oversight of land-use permits along state routes (official website).

The agency serves as a state body overseeing planning, construction and maintenance of roads, bridges and tunnels across Virginia (official website). Established from the State Highway Commission in 1906, VDOT has evolved to manage the growing transportation infrastructure needs of the Commonwealth (official website). Its headquarters is located at 1221 East Broad Street in Richmond (official website).

“All activities depend on weather conditions,” according to VDOT.

Drivers are encouraged to stay informed about local road conditions during this period.
