The Virginia Department of Transportation announced on May 15 that construction and maintenance work is scheduled throughout the Culpeper District from May 18 to May 22.

This update matters to local drivers as it provides advance notice about roadwork, possible delays, and opportunities to plan alternate routes. The department said the date and time ranges indicate when work is scheduled, not when it will be completed, and all activities depend on weather conditions.

According to the announcement, crews will conduct a range of activities across the district. These include bridge and guardrail maintenance, brush, tree, limb cutting, pothole repairs, surface and shoulder repairs, paving operations, mowing, drainage work, roadside cleanup and responding to specific work orders. For live updates on traffic conditions or roadwork status during this period drivers are encouraged to visit 511 Virginia or use the free VDOT 511 Virginia Traffic app for mobile devices.

Drivers can also sign up for personalized traffic alerts or view real-time traffic cameras through the same service. The department invites residents to follow VDOT Culpeper District on X (formerly Twitter) at @VaDOTCULP or join their Facebook group for further updates. Additional resources such as a paving status map are available online.

Virginia Department of Transportation manages one of the nation’s largest state highway systems with tens of thousands of lane-miles across Virginia; its responsibilities include building, maintaining and operating roads as well as overseeing land-use permits along state routes according to the official website. The agency has evolved since its beginnings in 1906 into an organization headquartered at 1221 East Broad Street in Richmond that oversees planning and maintenance for roads, bridges and tunnels statewide.
