The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will temporarily close Route 647 (Crest Hill Road) at Glenara Lane in Marshall, Fauquier County, to replace a drainage pipe beneath the roadway. The closure is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, and the road is expected to reopen by 6 a.m. on Thursday, September 11, weather permitting.

VDOT has established signed detours for motorists during the overnight closure. For eastbound traffic, drivers will be directed from Crest Hill Road onto Wilson Road, then Carters Run Road, before returning to U.S. 17 South; westbound traffic will follow this route in reverse. Another detour for westbound travelers directs vehicles from Crest Hill Road onto Leeds Manor Road and Hume Road before reconnecting with Crest Hill Road; eastbound drivers can use this detour in reverse.

Access for local residents within the closure area will be maintained so that driveway entrances remain accessible.

“Motorists should be alert for workers and construction equipment, follow detour signs, and use caution while passing through the area,” VDOT stated.

Updates about local conditions in VDOT’s Culpeper District are available on their X.com/VaDOTCulp account and the Culpeper District Facebook page. Travelers can check current traffic conditions through VDOT’s statewide network of traffic cameras and other travel information resources via the 511Virginia website, the free VDOT 511 mobile app, or by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia.
