The Commonwealth Transportation Board has awarded a contract for the Route 58 Vesta widening project. During its meeting on February 18 in Richmond, the board approved a design-build contract worth approximately $165 million to Triton Construction Inc., based in Virginia. This project aims to widen a 4.5-mile stretch of Route 58 in Patrick County’s Vesta area.

The project will start near the eastern intersection of Route 58 Business in Meadows of Dan and extend about half a mile east of Route 610, also known as Cloudbreak Road. It involves expanding Route 58 from two lanes to four lanes and replacing the existing bridge over the Dan River with two new bridges. The Vesta project is adjacent to the Lovers Leap widening project, which is currently under construction.

Triton Construction plans to begin collecting soil samples and other necessary data this spring to finalize the road design. Residents in the area may observe temporary access roads being built and brush cutting activities.
