The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) is seeking public input on transportation projects and initiatives through a series of meetings across Virginia. Nine meetings have been scheduled where participants can share their feedback on projects that have been recommended for funding, as well as other transportation plans. Feedback can be provided through attendance at public meetings or by submitting comments online, via email, or by mail.

Community members will be able to engage with and provide input on the Draft Fiscal Year (FY) 2026-2031 Six-Year Improvement Program (SYIP). This program assigns public funds for various transport-related projects such as highways, bridges, railways, and public transport. Projects included in the SYIP that are eligible for federal funding will also be part of the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), which details how Virginia plans to use its federal funds. The draft SYIP outlines projects recommended for funding within several programs:

– SMART SCALE offers financial support for public transportation and infrastructure projects through the High Priority Projects Program and the Construction District Grant Program.
– Safety is focused on funding for improvements across the road network.
– The Innovation and Technology Transportation Fund (ITTF) supports initiatives related to high-tech infrastructure improvements.
– State of Good Repair provides finances for deteriorated roads and structurally weak bridges.
– Public Transportation and Rail supports public transport agencies and rail programs within Virginia.

Public opinion on new projects valued over $25 million will also be welcomed.

Meetings will take place at 4 p.m. at the following locations, except where noted otherwise:

– April 22: Richmond District, Richmond District Hawthorne Auditorium, Colonial Heights, VA.
– April 23: Lynchburg District, Ramey Auditorium, Lynchburg, VA.
– April 24: Hampton Roads District, James River Auditorium, Suffolk, VA.
– May 6: Fredericksburg District, Fredericksburg District Auditorium, Fredericksburg, VA.
– May 7: Culpeper District, Culpeper District Auditorium, Culpeper, VA.
– May 8, 5 p.m.: Northern Virginia District, Potomac Conference Room, Fairfax, VA.
– May 13: Bristol District, Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center, Abingdon, VA.
– May 14: Salem District, Holiday Inn Valley View, Roanoke, VA.
– May 15: Staunton District, Robert E. Plecker Workforce Center, Weyers Cave, VA.

Information on the SYIP can be found online through the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) websites. Public comments can be submitted online, via email or mail until May 21, 2025. For road-related feedback, contact Six-YearProgram@VDOT.Virginia.gov or mail to the Infrastructure Investment Director at the Virginia Department of Transportation. For transit and rail, comments should be directed to DRPTPR@drpt.virginia.gov or mailed to the Public Information Office at the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation.
