Virginia junior Claire Curzan was named the co-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women’s swimming and diving, according to an announcement made on April 22 by the ACC.
Curzan leads a group of 17 student-athletes from Virginia’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams who were selected to the ACC All-Academic Team. The recognition highlights academic achievement as well as athletic performance among collegiate swimmers and divers.
This marks the seventh consecutive year that a member of Virginia’s program has earned the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor in women’s swimming and diving. Previous recipients include Gretchen Walsh in 2024 and 2025, Kate Douglass in 2022 and 2023, and Paige Madden in both 2020 and 2021. Curzan shares this year’s award with Torri Huske from Stanford.
The academic criteria for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team require a minimum grade point average of 3.0 for both the previous two semesters as well as a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 throughout one’s academic career. Student-athletes must also be enrolled at their institution for at least one year, classified as undergraduates, and must have competed in at least half of their team’s contests or participated at conference or NCAA championship events.
The full list of Virginia athletes named to this season’s All-ACC Academic Team includes Aimee Canny, Katie Christopherson, Claire Curzan, Cavan Gormsen, Katie Grimes, Bailey Hartman, Tess Howley, Anna Moesch, Carly Novelline, Zoe Skirboll, Emma Weber, Charlotte Wilson (women), along with Hayden Bellotti, Jay Gerloff, Matthew Heilman, David King, and Spencer Nicholas (men).
