Virginia junior Claire Curzan was named the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Team Member of the Year for swimming and diving, according to an announcement on April 28 by College Sports Communicators.
Curzan, an Applied Statistics major with a 3.87 GPA, was also selected as a first-team member of the CSC Academic All-America team. Sophomores Anna Moesch and Katie Grimes from Virginia were voted to the second team. The recognition highlights both academic achievement and athletic performance among student-athletes.
Curzan is now the third swimmer from Virginia to receive this top honor, following Lexi Cuomo in 2023 and Gretchen Walsh in 2025. She has won three consecutive NCAA titles in the 200-yard backstroke, back-to-back titles in the 100-yard backstroke, and contributed to multiple NCAA champion relay teams as part of Virginia’s sixth straight national championship.
In her first three seasons, Curzan has earned five individual NCAA titles, eight relay championships, eighteen conference championships, and was named ACC Championship Most Valuable Women’s Swimmer of the Meet after winning two individual races and participating in three champion relays. She was also voted co-ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. This marks her second consecutive year earning first-team Academic All-America honors; Moesch and Grimes received this accolade for their first time.
Since its inception in 1952, College Sports Communicators has recognized outstanding student-athletes across all divisions who excel academically while competing athletically. In recent years, CSC expanded its awards program to include more categories such as separate recognition for swimming & diving beginning with the 2022-23 season.
The broader impact of these recognitions underscores continued excellence among collegiate athletes balancing rigorous academics with high-level competition.
