The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and its design-build contractor team, Allan Myers and Wagman Construction, will host a citizen information meeting on the I-64 Gap Segment C Widening Project. The meeting aims to share updates on the ongoing design and construction efforts in James City County.
Set for Tuesday, May 6, the event will take place at Stonehouse Elementary School in Williamsburg from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The format will be an open house, allowing attendees to interact with the design-build team and VDOT representatives. Information will be provided on current project designs, construction, projected traffic impacts, the construction timeline, and the results of the project’s final noise analysis and noise barrier location.
The construction commenced in November 2024. It encompasses a 9-mile widening of the I-64 roadway, along with pavement rehabilitation starting from the New Kent/James City County line to about 1.15 miles west of the Route 199 Lightfoot exit. Additionally, the project includes the repair, rehabilitation, and widening of two bridges on I-64 over Six Mount Zion Road, and paving the Lightfoot Park and Ride lot in York County.
The I-64 widening project is divided into three segments, labeled A, B, and C, each functioning as an independent project intended to enhance connectivity between Richmond and Hampton Roads. The goal is to improve congestion and safety by widening around 29 miles of travel lanes in the corridor. The current width provides two lanes in each direction, creating a gap between sections that have three lanes at both ends.
