The Chesapeake Mosquito Control Commission announced on June 1 that it will host two Tire Amnesty Drives on Thursday, June 11, and Thursday, June 25. The events will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Chesapeake Mosquito Control, located at 1611 Shell Road.

A valid driver’s license is required to confirm Chesapeake residency, and drivers must remain in their vehicles unless directed by staff. Staff members will be responsible for removing all tires from vehicles during the event.

The commission said only passenger vehicle tires from cars, SUVs, and light trucks will be accepted. Tires with rims, large off-road or agricultural tires, tractor-trailer tires, and commercial tires are not permitted. There is a limit of five tires per resident; this limit may be reduced if capacity is reached during the event. Dumping outside of event hours is not allowed.

Residents seeking more information can call 757-382-3450 or email MosquitoControl@CityOfChesapeake.net.

The City of Chesapeake covers 353 square miles across diverse environments and operates under a council-manager form of government. It preserves historic districts and supports educational events such as the Battle of Great Bridge reenactment; its origins trace back to early English settlements near the Elizabeth River around 1620, and it is linked to significant Revolutionary War events including the Battle of Great Bridge in 1775, according to the official website.
