A Chesapeake resident, Jamey Andre Bennett, 50, has been sentenced to 10 years and 10 months in prison following his conviction on federal drug trafficking and firearms charges. The sentencing took place in Norfolk, Virginia.
According to court records, law enforcement intercepted a package containing about one kilogram of cocaine that was addressed to a fictitious name at Bennett’s residence on October 9, 2024. Authorities replaced the cocaine with counterfeit drugs and made a controlled delivery to the address. After Bennett retrieved and opened the parcel, investigators arrested him and searched his home.
During the search, police recovered the counterfeit cocaine along with an additional kilogram of real cocaine, approximately 5,000 fentanyl pills stamped to resemble Percocet, 1.605 grams of crack cocaine, two loaded firearms, a magazine containing ten rounds of ammunition, two scales, packaging materials, and two cellphones.
The announcement was made by Erik S. Siebert, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; Christopher C. Goumenis, Special Agent in Charge for the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Washington Division; Col. Matthew D. Hanley of Virginia State Police; Mark G. Solesky of Chesapeake Police; and Mark Talbot of Norfolk Police after Chief U.S. District Judge Mark S. Davis issued the sentence.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Luke Bresnahan prosecuted the case.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America—a national initiative that uses resources from agencies such as the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) to combat illegal immigration, target cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.
