The City of Chesapeake announced on May 14 that all eastbound lanes and one westbound lane of Bainbridge Boulevard near Livingston Avenue will be closed to thru traffic from May 18 through June 19 for the Raleigh Heights Sanitary Sewer Renewal Project. A marked detour using Interstate 464 to Poindexter Street will direct eastbound traffic during this period.

The advisory is intended to inform motorists about changes in local traffic patterns due to infrastructure work. The city encourages drivers to follow posted signage and notes that additional project details and schedules will be provided when available.

According to the official website, the City of Chesapeake covers 353 square miles across diverse environments, operates under a council-manager form of government, preserves historic districts, supports educational events like the Battle of Great Bridge reenactment, and traces its origins back to early English settlements near the Elizabeth River dating from around 1620. The city is also linked to significant Revolutionary War events such as the Battle of Great Bridge in 1775.

City officials say these improvements are part of ongoing efforts to maintain essential services while minimizing disruption for residents. Updates regarding this project are expected as work progresses.
