Celebrity chef Jet Tila visited George Mason University’s Fairfax Campus on April 29, according to a May 21 announcement. The event, hosted by Mason Dining, included cooking demonstrations and opportunities for students to meet the chef at various campus locations.

Tila is known for his appearances on television shows such as Iron Chef America, Chopped, and Beat Bobby Flay. His visit aimed not only to engage with students but also to address food insecurity within the university community.

During lunch at Southside Dining Hall, every student meal swipe was matched by Mason Dining with a donation to the Student Support and Advocacy Center. This initiative resulted in more than 1,500 meal swipes being donated to benefit George Mason students experiencing food insecurity.

Tila also hosted a live cooking demonstration and question-and-answer session in the Johnson Center. He spoke with students about his experiences growing up in his family’s restaurants and shared stories from his career as a chef and author. The day concluded at Ike’s Dining Hall where the first 50 students received signed copies of Tila’s cookbooks.

The event highlighted both culinary creativity and community support efforts at George Mason University.
