Chaka Jones-Dowdye, a family advocate with FACE at Ratcliffe Elementary School, was recognized as the “Yay of the Day” honoree, according to a May 1 announcement. Superintendent Amy Cashwell presented the honor to Jones-Dowdye for her dedication and positive impact within Henrico County Public Schools.
The recognition highlights the importance of staff members who contribute to supportive learning environments. Henrico County Public Schools focuses on delivering positive experiences to students through dedicated educational and support roles, as noted on the official website according to the division.
LaQuana Wigfall nominated Jones-Dowdye for her kindness and mentorship. “She embodies the heart of what it means to support and uplift others. When I first joined Henrico County Public Schools, I remember attending my first FACE division meeting during my third week of employment. I didn’t know anyone yet and felt a little out of place. As I sat quietly at the table, the room was cold. Chaka, who had never met me before, noticed and immediately offered me her extra coat. That simple act of kindness meant more than she probably realized. What started as a small gesture quickly grew into something much bigger,” Wigfall said.
Wigfall continued: “From that moment on, Chaka welcomed me with open arms. She became not only a colleague but also a mentor and a true friend… Her willingness to uplift others, share her knowledge, and lead with kindness makes a lasting impact on our team and the families we serve.” The nomination emphasized that Jones-Dowdye is seen as both an outstanding team player and leader among colleagues.
