The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has reopened Route 672, also known as Carys Creek Road, at the bridge over Able Creek in Fluvanna County. The reopening follows the completion of a bridge superstructure replacement project.

The bridge was made available to traffic on December 18, and the detour that had been in place during construction has been removed. With the new superstructure in place, the bridge is now able to support all legal loads and provides a clear roadway width of about 17 feet 10 inches.

VDOT noted that due to recent weather conditions, crews will need to temporarily close the roadway again at a future date to finish paving work on the bridge approaches and deck. The date for this short-term closure has not yet been set. VDOT stated: “Once scheduled, VDOT will provide advance notice to motorists.”

Local updates for road conditions in VDOT’s Culpeper District are shared on social media channels including X.com/VaDOTCulp and the Culpeper District Facebook page. For current statewide traffic information, travelers can use the 511Virginia website, VDOT’s free mobile app, or call 511 from any phone in Virginia.

VDOT is responsible for building, maintaining, and operating roads, bridges, and tunnels across Virginia to support safe and efficient transportation according to its official website. The agency manages one of the largest state highway systems in the country and oversees services such as highway maintenance and traffic management through systems like Virginia 511 (source). VDOT also handles planning, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure throughout the state (source).
