A section of Carys Chapel Road at its intersection with Wythe Creek Road in Poquoson and Hampton is scheduled to close for an extended period beginning as early as January 5, 2026. The closure is part of the Wythe Creek Road Widening Project and will allow for construction of a new bridge and improvements to the intersection. The closure is expected to last until fall 2026.

The affected area covers nearly 400 feet of Carys Chapel Road in both directions, from Wythe Creek Road to just east of the entrance to the Surfs Up restaurant. During this time, all turns between Wythe Creek Road and Carys Chapel Road will be prohibited. A detour will direct motorists via Victory Boulevard.

Access to businesses and properties along Carys Chapel and Wythe Creek roads, including Surfs Up restaurant, will remain available during the closure. The existing entrance and parking lot for Surfs Up can still be reached from Victory Boulevard.

“All work is weather- and schedule-dependent; therefore, it is subject to change.”
