Freshman Carson Looney finished as runner-up at the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship in Orlando, Fla., on April 29. The VCU Rams men’s golf team secured third place overall in the tournament.

Looney’s performance marks a strong end to his debut season. He shot a final-round score of three-under-par 69, maintaining his second-place standing throughout the day and concluding the event nine-under-par over three rounds. Richmond’s Lucas Rizo-Patron won medalist honors with a total score of thirteen-under-par after shooting a final-round 66.

The VCU team finished even par for Wednesday’s round but could not keep pace with Richmond, which posted a fifteen-under-par team score for the day to claim the title at fourteen-under overall. George Mason took second place at four-under. Other top-five finishers included Rhode Island and George Washington.

Senior Zach Felts finished tied for twentieth with a four-over-par total after shooting an even-par round of 72 on Wednesday. Sophomore Tanner Cadieux and senior Mason Minkel both tied for twenty-fourth at five-over-par; Minkel recorded a one-under 71 in the final round.

VCU has consistently performed well since joining the Atlantic 10 Conference before the 2012-13 season, never finishing lower than fourth in this championship event. Looney was among the tournament leaders in Par-4 and Par-5 scoring averages and registered just three bogeys over fifty-four holes while making twelve birdies—the most on his team.
