CAA Cross Country Weekly Awards – Sept. 13

A pair of Stony Brook student-athletes swept the Colonial Athletic Association Cross Country weekly awards, thanks to their performances last Friday. Fiona McLoughlin was named the CAA Women’s Runner of the Week, and Robert Becker was selected as the CAA Men’s Runner of the Week.  

 WOMEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK

Fiona McLoughlin, Stony Brook

Junior | Dix Hills, N.Y. / Commack HS

McLoughlin recorded her second top-10 finish in as many weeks, placing sixth overall at the Friar Invitational on Friday. The junior posted a time of 17:51.39 on the 5K course to lead the pack for the Seawolves and record the top time in the conference this week.

 MEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK

Robert Becker, Stony Brook

Graduate | Hurley, N.Y. / Kingston HS

Becker earned his second straight individual victory to begin the 2022 season, crossing the line in first place at the Friar Invitational. The graduate student won the 8K race in a time of 23:30.95 to lead Stony Brook to the team title at the event.

 Women’s Notes

Hofstra opened the season at the LIU Fall Festival, with three runners finishing in the top 10 at the event. Sophia Masciarelli led the way, placing third in a time of 19:11.42 … UNCW won the team title at its home invitational as junior Kendall Hobbs won her first collegiate race, posting a time of 18:27.61 … Nicole Garcia (18:05.87) and Grace Weigele (18:13.35) joined McLoughlin with top-10 finishes as Stony Brook ranked third in the team standings at the Friar Invitational. 

 Men’s Notes

Hofstra started the 2022 season at the LIU Fall Festival and freshman Abraham Longosiwa earned an individual victory (24:47.71) in his collegiate debut … UNCW placed five runners in the top 10 at its home invitational to claim the team title. Luke Kiziah paced the Seahawks, finishing second in the 5K race with a time of 15:38.83 … Stony Brook won its second straight team title, marking the first time the Seawolves have won back-to-back events since 2019.
