Part of Route 633 in Alleghany County will experience closures for bridge work beginning on March 15, according to an announcement from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The original schedule was for March 5-6 and March 10-13, but it has now been moved to March 15 and March 17-20.
The daytime closures, occurring from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., will affect the area near the Cowpasture River bridge. These restrictions allow crews to stage equipment and remove an adjacent truss bridge. During this period, Route 633 will be closed to through traffic between Route 634 and the Botetourt County line.
Detours are set for drivers during the closure. Northbound travelers must use a route that involves heading south on Route 633, north on Route 220, east on Longdale Furnace Road, then back onto Route 633 at Sharon Lane/McKinney Hollow Road. Southbound travelers should take Route 633 north via Sharon Lane, west on Longdale Furnace Road, south on Route 220, and return north on Route 633.
