The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced the reopening of the bridge over Wheeler Creek on Route 617, East Green Springs Road, in Louisa County. The bridge, which was originally constructed in 1957, underwent rehabilitation to address its deteriorated condition and limited weight capacity.

VDOT’s Louisa bridge crew undertook significant repairs to the substructure and replaced the superstructure with a new steel beam and timber deck. This work widened the bridge from 13 feet, 5 inches to 16 feet. The improvements now allow it to carry all legal loads, lifting the previous restriction of a posted weight limit of 12 tons.

For those seeking local updates on conditions within VDOT’s Culpeper District, information is available on X.com/VaDOTCulp and through the Culpeper District Facebook page. Additionally, current traffic conditions across VDOT’s statewide network can be accessed via the 511Virginia website. This real-time travel information is also available through the free VDOT 511 mobile app or by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia.
