Virginia Tech junior pitcher Brett Renfrow and freshman infielder Ethan Ball were recognized on May 18 with year-end all-conference honors from the Atlantic Coast Conference during the postseason awards presentation in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The recognition highlights the achievements of both players during the 2026 season. Renfrow was named to the All-ACC Second Team, marking his highest career accolade after previously earning Third Team honors in both 2024 and 2025. Ball was selected for the ACC All-Freshman Team, becoming Virginia Tech’s first honoree on that list since Renfrow received it as a freshman in 2024.
Renfrow delivered a strong performance throughout the season, finishing with a 5-2 record and a 4.60 earned run average over his ten conference starts. He struck out 69 batters across those games and totaled 86 strikeouts over fourteen starts overall. Notably, he recorded eight or more strikeouts five times against ACC opponents, including a career-high twelve strikeouts in Virginia Tech’s March win over Stanford. In his final four ACC outings—all against top-60 NCAA Division I Baseball RPI teams—Renfrow posted a combined earned run average of 1.53, held opponents to a .179 batting average, and was named ACC Pitcher of the Week following an eight-inning shutout performance against NC State.
Ethan Ball made an immediate impact as a freshman by producing team-leading numbers in several categories: hits (58), doubles (17), home runs (13), and runs batted in (47). He started all thirty conference games at second base alongside Sam Grube and maintained consistency by reaching base in all but four league contests. Ball began his collegiate career with a ten-game hitting streak and reached base safely for twenty-one consecutive games. His season included seventeen multi-hit games, fourteen multi-RBI performances, and he concluded regular play with a .607 slugging percentage.
Both players are set to lead Virginia Tech into this week’s ACC Baseball Championship at Truist Field in Charlotte as the No.7 seed team. The Hokies will begin tournament play on Wednesday, May 20 at 5 p.m., facing either Notre Dame or Clemson.
