Weather permitting, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close the Benjamin Harrison Bridge over the James River on Route 156 (Jordan Point Road)/Route 106 (Roxbury Road) between Charles City and Prince George counties for bridge improvements during two weekends.
The first closure will be effective at 1 a.m. on Friday, July 18, through 5 a.m. on Monday, July 21. The second closure will take place beginning at 1 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, through 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 4. The closure affects both vehicular and marine vessel traffic.
Motorists should follow the posted detours:
Northbound Routes 156/106: Take Route 156 (Jordan Point Road) south towards Route 10 (James River Drive) west to I-295 north and take Exit 22A towards eastbound Route 5 (New Market Road) back to Route 156/106.
Southbound Route 156/106: Take Route 106 (Roxbury Road) north towards Route 5 (New Market Road) west to I-295 south and take Exit 15A towards eastbound Route 10 (James River Drive) back to Route 156/106.
