Barbara Myers, an instructional assistant at Douglas S. Freeman High School, was recognized as the “Yay of the Day” honoree, according to an announcement on Apr. 24 by Henrico County Public Schools Superintendent Amy Cashwell.
The recognition highlights the contributions of staff who foster positive learning environments and support student growth in Henrico County Public Schools. The district focuses on delivering quality educational experiences through dedicated educators and support staff, as noted on the official website.
Myers was nominated by Bailly Suhr for her work in Freeman’s Integrated Services department over 15 years. Suhr said, “She is an incredibly hardworking member of Freeman’s Integrated Services department and has been for 15 years. She creates a positive environment wherever she goes and helps to hold students accountable in a way that helps them grow and learn from their actions.” Suhr added, “Her ability to add brightness and positivity to emotional situations. Students she works with have cognitive and emotional weaknesses that sometimes make it difficult to regulate their emotions at time, and Barbara works hard to help create an engaging and stimulating learning environment for students to express themselves in ways they need to.”
