The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced that the southbound right lane of Backlick Road (Route 617) between Wimsatt Road and Rhoden Court/Hechinger Drive in Springfield will be closed on Friday, Feb. 27, from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The closure is scheduled to allow for an inspection of the bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks.
According to VDOT, “Drivers should expect delays and are advised to use alternate routes.”
The department also reminds motorists, “Drivers are reminded to use caution when traveling in active work zones. Be alert to new traffic patterns and limit distractions.”
VDOT provides real-time traffic, work zone, and incident information online at 511.vdot.virginia.gov, through the free mobile 511Virginia app, or by calling 511 within Virginia.
VDOT manages one of the largest state highway systems in the country, covering tens of thousands of lane-miles across Virginia. The agency’s responsibilities include building, maintaining, and operating roads, bridges, and tunnels to support safe and efficient transportation throughout the state (official website). In addition to highway maintenance and construction oversight, VDOT offers services such as traffic management via systems like Virginia 511 (official website).
