James Madison University lost to Appalachian State University, 19-10, in a Sun Belt Conference baseball game on April 18 at Veterans Memorial Park. The teams combined for a total of 29 runs, with the Mountaineers taking an early lead and holding off several rallies by the Dukes.

The result marks the sixth consecutive loss for James Madison, bringing their record to 16-21 overall and 6-11 in conference play. Appalachian State improved to 21-16 overall and holds a conference record of 9-8.

Junior Kyle Langley, sophomore Reece Moody, and freshman Cameron Aycock each collected three hits and scored twice for James Madison. Moody also recorded an RBI and stole his 29th base of the season, tying him for fifth most in a single season at JMU. Aycock contributed two RBIs as well as tying his season high in hits, runs scored, and RBIs. Redshirt sophomore Clay Thompson matched his career best with three RBIs.

Appalachian State established control early by scoring five runs in the first inning and four more in the second. James Madison responded with five runs of their own before recording an out in the second inning but could not overcome App State’s offense throughout the rest of the game.

The trio of Aycock, Langley, and Moody became the first group from JMU to each have three hits in a single game since May 24, 2024 against Old Dominion during last year’s Sun Belt tournament. The Dukes also tied their season best with fifteen team hits—the same number they achieved against Le Moyne on February 21.

James Madison will conclude its series against Appalachian State with another matchup scheduled for April 19.
