Virginia’s Andres Santamarta Roig was named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week, according to an announcement made on April 14 by the conference.
Santamarta Roig secured this recognition after helping clinch a 4-0 victory for the Cavaliers in their regular-season finale against Virginia Tech. He won his singles match on court three with a score of 6-0, 6-4 and also teamed up with junior Dylan Dietrich to win doubles court two, finishing at 6-4.
He concluded the dual match regular season with a record of 13 wins and only two losses. This included four victories over ranked opponents, and he has won his last eight completed matches.
This marks Santamarta Roig’s first weekly conference honor since joining Virginia’s men’s tennis team.
