American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) has been found in civil contempt by the Richmond City Circuit Court. The decision comes after AMP failed to comply with a court order to respond to a Civil Investigative Demand (CID) issued by the Virginia Attorney General’s Office.

Attorney General Jason Miyares emphasized the importance of adherence to legal requirements, stating, “The Attorney General’s Office has the duty to ensure charitable organizations operating in Virginia adhere to the law. The Court’s authority must be respected and upheld.”

The CID was initially issued in October 2023 as part of an investigation into allegations that AMP may have misused solicited funds, potentially violating Virginia’s charitable solicitation law. In response, AMP filed a petition to modify or dismiss the demand, which was denied by the court in July 2024.

Despite this denial, AMP continued to resist compliance, prompting an enforcement action by the Attorney General in January 2025. By May 2025, the court had directed AMP to comply with the CID, followed by an order in June 2025 requiring compliance within two weeks.

Today’s ruling holds AMP in civil contempt for not adhering to this directive.
