Restoration News has reported that the American Constitutional Rights Union (ACRU) has honored six Virginia sheriffs and the Virginia State Police chief for their collaboration with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in detaining and processing dangerous illegal aliens.

According to The Washington Times, Virginia has been significantly affected by crimes committed by illegal immigrants, including incidents of sexual assault, homicide, and drunk driving fatalities. The publication notes that repeat offenders often remain in communities because sanctuary jurisdictions do not cooperate with ICE detainer requests, allowing these individuals to reoffend. The ACRU emphasizes that this is why the cooperation of Virginia sheriffs with ICE is crucial for public safety.

The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) documents that the 287(g) program operates under three models: jail enforcement, task force, and warrant service. These models enable local sheriffs to tailor their cooperation with ICE based on resources and community needs while ensuring criminal aliens are identified and processed efficiently. CIS research indicates that jurisdictions adopting these programs see a reduction in recidivism as offenders face federal detention rather than returning to local streets.

According to the Pew Research Center, nearly 8 million unauthorized immigrants are active in the U.S. labor force, many residing in states like Virginia, California, and Texas. This substantial population presents unique challenges for local law enforcement, particularly when individuals with prior deportations reenter and commit new crimes. Pew’s data highlights the importance of partnerships between local sheriffs and federal immigration authorities in maintaining community safety.

The ACRU is a nonprofit legal and policy organization focused on defending the Constitution and protecting U.S. citizens’ rights. The group addresses issues from election integrity to law enforcement support, ensuring policies uphold civil liberties and community safety. Under Lt. Col. Allen West’s leadership, ACRU continues to recognize sheriffs and state police who honor their oath to uphold the rule of law, reflecting its mission to defend constitutional rights.
