Freshman Alyssa Hopkins was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week after a strong performance at the plate during George Mason’s five-game stretch, according to an April 28 announcement from the university.
The recognition highlights Hopkins’ impact as a first-year player on the Patriots’ roster. Her consistent hitting and ability to reach base contributed significantly to her team’s offense over several games.
Hopkins led George Mason with a .667 batting average, a .706 on-base percentage, and a 1.000 slugging percentage across five games. She collected ten hits in fifteen at-bats, drove in two runs, and scored four times. In four out of five contests, she had multiple hits, including three hits in the opening game against Loyola Chicago. The freshman also recorded two doubles and one home run while reaching base by walk and being hit by pitch.
Her performances were described as providing “a spark for the Patriots” and demonstrating her “growing impact in the lineup early in her collegiate career.” This is Hopkins’ first weekly honor at George Mason and makes her the fourth different freshman on this season’s team to earn Rookie of the Week honors.
George Mason will conclude its regular season with an Atlantic 10 series against Rhode Island at URI Softball Complex. The teams are scheduled for a doubleheader on Saturday, May 2, followed by a single game on Sunday, May 3.
