George Mason softball secured a 4-1 win over Howard at the George Mason Softball Complex on April 22. The Patriots were led by Tess Altevers Harris, who hit two solo home runs and scored three times to help her team clinch the victory.
The game was significant for George Mason as they improved their record to 25-20 overall and reached a .500 mark in Atlantic 10 conference play. The team’s strong pitching and timely hitting contributed to holding Howard, which entered the game with only one loss in its conference, to just one run.
Altevers Harris opened the scoring in the first inning with a solo home run to left field. She repeated this feat in the fourth inning, marking her ninth home run of the season. In addition to her offensive performance, Alyssa Hopkins contributed two hits and an RBI, while Jessica Chan scored after entering as a pinch runner due to an error by Howard.
Pitchers Bri Lencz and Abbey Lane combined for seven innings of effective work on the mound. Lencz allowed one earned run over four innings with a strikeout, improving her record to 8-3. Lane started the game with three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out one batter.
Looking ahead, George Mason will conclude its regular season home schedule with a three-game series against Loyola Chicago beginning April 25. Senior Day celebrations will take place before Saturday’s doubleheader, honoring six players including Altevers Harris.
